Mr. Troy Buck earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in agriculture from the University of Arkansas and started teaching vocational agriculture at Hope High School in 1961. During his 21 years in Hope, he built the FFA chapter into the largest in the state.
He then moved to Amity High School where he established the state’s first and only meat processing lab for high school students. The Amity FFA chapter won the National Building Our American Communities award in 1992 for their work in restoring the old school building in Alpine.
After consolidation of the Amity and Glenwood school districts, the Centerpoint FFA chapter was recognized as the National Outstanding Vo-Ag Program in America.
Buck served several years as president of the Arkansas Vo-Ag Teachers Association along with positions on several other local and state boards. He was awarded the Phelps-Martin Award for outstanding service to agriculture and rural communities, the Dr. Dan Pilkington Award for Outstanding Service to Public Education, the Agriculture Pioneer Award, and and he is a three-time recipient of the Arkansas Agriculture Teacher of the Year Award.
Mr. Buck was inducted into the Arkansas Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Hope School District Hall of Fame. He passed away August 15, 2022.
